Serving our Community since 1952, the CBPA aims to safeguard the history and interests of residents within the Cockburn coast suburbs.
Our History and Vision
The early days…
It all began in 1952 as a social gathering for keen card players in the Coogee area. This progressed into a sewing club, with minutes printed in the Coastal Districts Star paper.
The 1960’s and 1970’s
Regular meetings were held in the Coogee Hotel which acted as an office and meeting space. The 1970’s saw the CBPA supporting local residents in lobbying against housing recently released prisoners at the Coogee Hotel (known at that time as the Anglicans Children’s home)
The 1980’s
The CBPA pushed for the removal of industry from North Coogee, especially the abattoirs and the dumping of waste into the ocean. Front page reports on the Fremantle Gazette documented some of the tense meetings around that time.
The 1990’s
The CBPA lobbied for redevelopment of the Coogee Jetty which had fallen into significant disrepair at that time.
The 2000’s
The first patrol’s of Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club took place in November 2002. Construction of Port Coogee commenced around 2006 and the CBPA provided community consultation.
The future..
The CBPA will continue to provide a voice to resident concerns and continue to work towards advancing and protecting the natural beauty of the suburb.
